Nellie Isabel Wade (909)
Plot 909 Nellie Isabel Wade (1883-1971)
Nellie was born in Berkhamsted 23 August 1883., the fourth child of Mark and Harriet (née Brown) Wade. Her father was a domestic gardener and she was to have nine siblings.
In 1901 she was living with her parents at 23, Cross Oak Road. Nellie, aged 17, was a dressmaker. Also at home were her siblings Rose (1887), Arthur (1891) and Frank (1894). She was still living there in 1911 with her parents and brother Frank. She was still a dressmaker.
In 1921 she was still with her parents at 11, Clarence Road, but she is shown on the census as blind. Also in the house was Alice Pool, a 16 year old orphan who was employed as a “daily girl” by a Miss Harvey.
Her father died in 1932 and the 1939 Register records Nellie still at 11, Clarence Road with her mother and “Incapacitated”, presumably as a result of her eyesight. Her mother died in 1945.
Nellie died 19 April 1971 at 18, Victoria Road aged 87 and is buried here with her parents.
