Plot 1154 Rosa Fanny Parsley (née Gardner) (1884-1945)

Rosa was born in 1884 in King’s Stanley, a village just SW of Stroud, Gloucestershire, the daughter of Catherine and David Gardner. Her father was a coalman.

In 1891 she lived with her parents and older sister at Westfield Stables, Holdenhurst, near Christchurch, Hampshire.

Rosa married Charles Parsley, a general labourer born in Dublin in 1910 in the Amesbury district, Wiltshire., but by 1911, the year that Phyllis Catherine Maud was born, they had moved to “Odcombe”, Belmont Road, Upper Parkstone, Poole, Dorset. Phyllis was baptised at Parkstone, Dorset in October that year.

In June 1921 the census records Rosa at 120, Shelbourne Road, Bournemouth. Charles was not at home. She was employed by the Bournemouth & District Laundry Company.

By the time of the 1939 Register Rosa was living at 4, Shrublands Avenue with Miss Mary Elizabeth Reading and Miss Sarah Cannon She is recorded as widowed and incapacitated. It seems likely that she and Miss Cannon were lodgers and that Miss Reading, the householder, was their landlady. However, the fact that she and Mary Reading were buried together suggests that this was also a relationship of friends.

Rosa died in May 1945 aged 61.
