Biography:
William G. Marks
1886 –1944

Unmarked grave William G Marks (1886-1944)

William was born out of wedlock 27 December 1886 in Pitstone, Bucks.

In 1891 he was living with his grandparents Ephraim and Caroline Marks and their two unmarried daughters, Anne and Emma, in Church End, Pitstone. Ephraim was a stone breaker and Caroline and her daughters were straw plaiters. It is possible that Anne was William’s mother, as Emma was named as his aunt in the 1891 census when he was living with her and her two sons. At the time William was employed as a labourer.

He married Miriam Ruth Dollimore in 1916 and daughter Dorothy was born that year followed by Joyce in 1919.

In 1921 William was a farm labourer living in Pitstone with the family and employed by farmer L J Hawkins.

The 1939 Register records him at 2, Kingshill Cottages, Kings Hill Berkhamsted, employed as a cowman.

William died in 1944 in West Herts hospital, Hemel Hempstead.
