William Tarsey
William Tarsey (1831-1900)
William was born in 1831 in Northchurch to Thomas Tarsey, a labourer.
He became a labourer himself and on 11 December 1853 married straw plaiter Sarah Wilson in St Mary’s Northchurch.
Emma was born in 1855 and Mary Ann in 1858.
In 1861 the family lived in Ellesmere Road. George was born in 1862, followed by William (1865) and Arthur (1868).
Sarah died in 1870 and by 1871 William was living in Holiday Street with the children. Daughter Emma was sixteen and a straw plaiter and was probably acting as housekeeper.
In 1881 William was in Provident Place with his widowed father and unmarried daughter Mary Ann.
William married again in 1887 in St Peter’s, to Ann Dell, and the 1891 census record the couple living alone in Provident Place. He was a timber carter, she was taking in laundry.
He died in June 1900 in Ellesmere Road aged 69.
His younger brother Charles is also buried in this cemeteryin the cemetery
