William James Ward
Unmarked grave William James Ward (1857-1921)
William was born in 1857 in Northchurch to John and Eliza Ward. The 1861census shows he had two older sisters and a younger brother. Their father was a labourer and the family lived in High Street, Northchurch.
William became a plumber and married Ellen Judge in 1879. They were to have 10 children of whom 7 were alive in 1911: Sarah E (1881), Herbert H (1885), Sidney Francis (1888), Frederick George (1890), Alice M (1893), Emily Lavinia (1896).
In 1901 they lived at 20, Bridge Street and in 1911 Pine Cottage, Angle Place, Berkhamsted.
Daughter Lavinia died in 1918 and is buried in this cemetery.
By 1921 William and Ellen lived alone except for a boarder.
William died at Pine Cottage, Angle Place in May 1922.
