Horace Allen grave is marked by a simple wooden cross at the top end of Rectory Lane Cemetery, originally made by his eldest son, Leslie, who was aged 14 at the time of Horace’s death in November 1929.

Horace died eight years too late to be commemorated by an official Commonwealth War Grave, but his name was included on the Garden of Remembrance War Memorial in 2020.

The stone plaque added in 2015 bears the inscription:

In memory of
HORACE FRED ALLEN
24.11.1893 – 21.11.1929
An average man
Beloved husband of
ANNIE LOUISA

Condition: good

This simple wooden cross was restored with the assistance of the Allen Family in 2015, along with the addition of a commemorative stone plaque.

This was one of the first grave restorations in the Rectory Lane Cemetery Project and was covered by the Hemel Hempstead Gazette in 2014
