Briony and her twin brother Richard were born at The Grange Nursing Home in August 1941 to Richard and Roshnara (née Wingfield-Stratford) Wrottesley who had married in 1941 in Berkhamsted

Sadly Richard died after just one hour and Briony four hours later. They are buried here together.

Their maternal grandfather, Esmé Cecil Wingfield-Stratford, was the author of about forty books, including histories, polemical works, fiction, and poetry. He died in Berkhamsted in 1971.
