Another Green Flag Award!
In May, a Keep Britain Tidy Green Flag Award judge visited Rectory Lane Cemetery. He was able to meet some of our Wednesday work party volunteers as he made his way around the Cemetery, seeing everything that was being done to maintain the space for the benefit of the community and wildlife.
We were delighted to learn that we have been successful, winning a Green Flag Community Award for the third year running, achieving the highest grade possible.
The judge was fulsome in his praise:
“This is an extremely professionally run site with local volunteers which has produced one of the best sites I have judged in many years. There is so much to applaud the work and energy that goes into this site and I cannot add anything only to see this is a model for other community run sites to look at and use to enhance their own. To have over 500 subscribers to their news letter is an indication, I am now another one. Excellence does not do them justice, thank you for a very informative and enjoyable experience.”
This is a testament to the dedication and hard work of everyone involved, particularly our volunteers without whom the space would not be able to be kept to this high standard. The Ranger Kate Campbell attended the Winners’ Event on behalf of the Project.
The Green Flag Award is the international quality mark for parks and green spaces. The Green Flag Community Award recognises quality sites managed by voluntary and community groups.
