Plot 1144 John Thorn (1869-1944)

John was born in 1869 in Mile End, London to John and Mary Thorn. His father was a labourer.

In 1881 John and his older brother Albert were living with their parents at 11, Louvaine Street, Mile End Old Town, London.

John married Clara Ann Baynton in 1898 in Edmonton.

The couple moved to Berkhamstead where Frank W was born in 1900.

In 1901 they lived at 11, Cowper Road. John was a mantle presser at the clothing factory in Lower King’s Road. They had a female lodger, a widowed mantle maker.

Clara was born in 1902 and Albert in 1904.

By 1911 they had moved to 11, Shrublands Avenue, and had the same lodger.

In 1921 the family was at the same address. Son Frank was a railway porter, daughter Clara a machinist at the clothing factory and John was an assistant salesman for shoe maker Freeman, Hardy & Willis,

The 1939 Register records them still at Shrublands Avenue. John was a porter. Daughter Clara was still at home as was their adopted daughter, Margaret.

John died 8 April 1944.

His brother Albert (died 1936) is also buried in this cemetery.
