Arthur was born in November 1856 to the Revd. John Robert Crawford, MA, and his wife Harriet Walford (née Hobbes).
His father was a housemaster at Berkhamsted school and the family lived in Castle Street. Little Arthur had two brothers and three sisters.
He was baptised in St Peter’s 3 December but sadly died aged 10 weeks in December 1856.
By 1861 his father was Master of the school. He died in 1863.
