Elizabeth was born in 1848, the fourth child of the two daughters and three sons born to Elizabeth (née Dawes) and George Hurst. Her father, born in Berkhamsted, was one of the town’s Hurst clan, mainly shoemakers, who had originated in Aylesbury.
In 1851 the family were living in the High Street. By 1881, aged 22, she was the only one left at home with her parents. The census records her occupation as “machinist”, making up boots and shoes. Her father died in June, and her mother in October, and the next year she lost her brother Charles.
In 1901 she was living at 1, Park Street with her sister Mary Ann and her brother-in-law David Osborn, a builder. She was still working as a boot machinist. Elizabeth remained with the Osborns until her death in January 1924 at 1, Park Street, aged 75.
Her cousin Thomas Hurst and his wife Maria are buried in plot 780, her aunt Eliza Hurst and her husband James William Wood lie in plot 656 and her cousin William Thomas Hurst and his wife in plot 780.
