Biography:
Mary Ann Atkins
1823 –13/09/1904

Mary Ann was born in 1823, Stoke Gifford, Gloucestershire, eldest child of James and Frances Beard (nee Bath).

In the 1851 census she was employed as a house maid with the family of Sir John Davis at Holly House, Hollywood Estate , Compton Greenfield,  Gloucestershire. She moved to Grafton Regis, where she met John Webb Atkins (born about 1820).  They married on 25th October 1859 and had two children:  William Henry, born 31 May 1861 and Frances Mary Elizabeth, born 17 Sep 1863, both at Yardley Gobion, Northamptonshire.

By 1881 the family were living at Aberdare, Glamorganshire.  John Webb was taken ill and died of softening of the brain on 25th November 1882, aged 62 at Mountain Ash.

Mary Ann and the family moved back to Yardley Gobion.  Frances Atkins met Frederick Norris and they eventually married at St Peters Church, Berkhamsted, on 8th September 1886.  Mary Ann lived with Frances and Frederick in their house at 17 Montague Road, Berkhamsted.  She died, aged 81 on 13th September 1904 and is buried with them in Rectory Lane Cemetery.
