Biography:
Rosa Figg
1879 –1914

Unmarked grave Rosa Figg (née Keeping)

Rosa was born in 1879 in Lambeth to Jane (née Wood) and John Keeping, a labourer. She was the fourth of their five daughters.

Rosa married Frederick Figg, a mantle cutter, in St Stephen’s church, Walworth 24 March 1901. They both gave their address as Thurlow Street, Walworth, but by the 31 March were in rooms in 4, Goodyear Place, Addington Square, in Camberwell.

They had moved to Berkhamsted by 1903 when their son Leonard was born. Elsie followed in 1905 and Albert Charles in 1907.

In 1911 the family were living at 14, New Street, Sunnyside. Frederick was a cutter for ladies’ tailoring, presumably at Corby, Palmer & Stuart’s mantle manufactory in Lower King’s Road where he was employed as a foreman ten years later.

Rosa died in August 1914 aged 35 in the Union infirmary, leaving three young children. Her youngest, Albert died aged only 19 in 1925 and is buried in this cemetery in plot 636.

Frederick remarried in 1916 and died in 1934.
