Plot 968 Sarah Jane Bedford (née Munn) (1859-1903)
Sarah was born in Bourne End in 1859 to Thomas and Elizabeth Munn. Her father was an agricultural labourer. In 1861 the family lived at Winterwell Road, Hemel Hempstead. By 1871 they had moved to Bourne End Lane, Northchurch.
Sarah married coachman Edward Harvey Bedford in 1878 at the Parish Church of Holy Trinity, in Greys Inn Road London. It is likely that Sarah had entered domestic service in London.
In 1880 their first son Edward Harvey was born in Little Gaddesden; the following year they were living in Highfield Road. George was born in 1883, Albert followed in1885, Florence in 1887, Frank in 1890 and Fred in 1897.
1901 they were living at 62, Castle Street. The three oldest sons were employed in their father’s flourishing carrier and carriage hire business.
Of Sarah’s five sons three died before they were thirty. Frederick, the only survivor, ended up as a labourer working in his brother-in-law’s building business. – Florence had married Albert Harrowell.
Sarah died 1 July 1903. Harvey died a fortnight later. They are buried here with their son Albert. Edward, George and Frank are buried in plot 877.
