John Cook was born 1827 in Pitstone Berkhamsted to Thomas Cook and Charlotte Henton.
John was a farm labourer he married Charlotte Macdonald in October 1851 when he was 25. In 1861they were living in Whitehill, Berkhamste. They had 8 children by 1875. By 1881 the family had moved to Ellesmere Road Northchurch and were still living there in 1891. Their son Frank, a corporal in the Royal Marines , was visiting his parents when the census was taken.
John died 4 September 1897 and is buried in Rectory Lane Cemetery
Charlotte Cook, née Macdonald, was born 3 January 1832 in Berkhamsted to Charlotte Macdonald, a single mother. She married John Cook in October 1851 when she was 19 and they had 8 children. In 1871 Charlotte was working as a straw plaiter. In 1881 the family lived in Ellesmere R0ad Northchurch.
Charlotte’s husband, John, died and in 1901 and Charlotte then lived in Station Road Berkhamsted with her daughter Sarah and son in law. Charlotte died in 1910 and is buried in Rectory Lane Cemetery.
