Plot 728 Thomas Henry Lines (1857-1937)

Thomas was born in Berkhamsted in 1857 to Richard and Mary Ann Lines and was baptised St Peter’s 6 September that year.

Both his parents were born in Berkhamsted. His father was a wood turner.

By 1871 Thomas had become a boot maker and was living with his parents in Victoria Road

He married Ellen Thorpe, born in Uppingham in Rutland in 1889 in the Kettering district

In 1891 he was a “letter carrier” or postman. The couple were living at 8 Montague Road with their baby son Harry Edward (born 1890) and a lodger, a post office clerk.

Three more sons followed: Arthur Edwin (1892), Albert Thomas (1893) and Walter Stanley (1896).

1911 they were all living at 8, Montague Road with all the sons in work.

By 1921 Thomas had retired and he and Ellen were still at 8, Montague Road with Harry, who was unmarried and Albert, his wife and two children.

Ellen died in August 1936.

Thomas survived her until 7 April 1937 when he died Hempstead House aged 79. They are buried here together.

His parents lie in plot 871.
