Revision Plot 886 Rosina Gravestock (née Lismer) (1857-1927)
Rosina Gravestock was the daughter of Thomas Lismer, a railway porter and his wife Eliza (née Bedford). Both her parents were born in Berkhamsted.
Rosina was born in Camden Town, London in 1857, possibly at 45, Hawley Road, where the family was living in 1861 with her parents, older sister Eliza and her uncle Thomas Bedford, also a railway porter.
Another sister was born and then her mother died in 1870 giving birth to a son. Rosina was just 13.
She married printer Harry Gravestock, in 1881 in the St Pancras district of London.
They began married life living in the household of Harry’s widowed grandfather, gardener James Gravestock, in Chesham Road.
Thomas Harry was born in 1882 followed by Eleanor Beatrice (1883) and Victoria Mary (1887).
In 1891 Rosina, Harry and their three children were living in Victoria Road Berkhamsted.
Ernest Edwin was born in 1892 and Rosina May in 1894.
1901 the family were at 31, Ravens Lane where Rosina was to live for the rest of her life. Harry was a machine printer, Thomas was a railway clerk and Eleanor was a machinist in the mantle factory in Lower King’s Road. Harry was employed as a printer by Cooper’s chemical works.
In 1905 her son Thomas Harry died, aged 24.
The 1911 census records that three of their children were still at home, unmarried. Eleanor was a sick nurse, Ernest a mercantile clerk and young Rosina was without an occupation. Living with them was Rosina’s widowed sister, Eliza Lothian.
By 1921 Harry, Rosina and Eliza were living together at number 31. Harry was still a letterpress printer for Cooper & Nephews.
Rosina, died on 8 October 1927 aged 70.
Only two months later, her sister, Eliza Ann Lothian, died on Christmas day and was buried in the same plot. They were joined by Harry, who died on 18 January 1929.
